The boxer of the national team of Ukraine, who spent three days in a coma, has died

Arkadiy Kartsan, one of the leaders of the Ukrainian national boxing team, died at the age of 25. The tragedy was reported by the Ukrainian Boxing Federation.

According to the FBU, the boxer from Khmelnytsky had been in a coma for the past three days, and on Tuesday, September 17, 25-year-old Arkadiy`s heart stopped. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Kartsan competed in the 92 kg weight category, representing his native Khmelnytskyi and the Avangard sports club, where he trained under the guidance of Anatoliy and Andriy Chumakov. He is a multiple champion of Ukraine and winner of many international tournaments. He was awarded the title of international master of sports.

Arkadiy achieved his first major success outside of Ukraine in 2015 when he won the European Junior Championships. In 2023, he became the country's strongest boxer in his weight category among adults and won the right to represent Ukraine at the 2023 European Games in the 92 kg category.

In the competition in Krakow, Kartsan reached the 1/8 finals, although many complained that the judges at that tournament held back Ukrainians.

In early January 2024, the fighter from Khmelnytskyi was supposed to box at a tournament in Debrecen, but he did not enter the ring. The head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Dmytro Sosnovsky, explained that Arkady had a psychological breakdown, which prevented him from competing.

Despite the fact that Kartsan failed to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, it seemed that he would still have a chance to fight for the gold medal. But on September 17, the champion's heart stopped forever...

"It is hard to find such a thirst for victory as this guy had, he dreamed of becoming an Olympic champion and worked hard for it. Rest in peace, champion! We will always remember you," the FBU expressed its condolences.
