The best car models for taxis: global rating
What does a car need to work successfully in a taxi? Of course, reliability, because it is a working tool that should break down as little as possible. It also needs to be economical, because the driver's profit depends on the balance of expenses and earnings. And also ease of repair and, of course, comfort.
Car WOW has compiled a rating of cars that meet all the stated criteria. Here are the top ten ideal cars for taxi work.
Skoda Octavia
Space is the key advantage offered by the Octavia. The rear seats here have more legroom than in some luxury cars. The same goes for the trunk. The hatchback offers 600 liters of luggage space, while the wagon offers 640 liters. The Octavia also has a strong reputation for reliability, is fairly easy to buy, and if you choose the economical 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine, its consumption will be 3.9 liters per 100 km or less.
MG 5
With a range of 400 km, the electric car may not be able to cope with several long flights to the airport, but it will be very convenient to get around the city. Currently, the MG 5 is one of the few electric station wagons available for purchase that can offer a huge 580-liter trunk. It is also praised for its good value for money. And also for its updated style in 2022.
Toyota Corolla Touring Sports
The new Toyota Corolla Touring Sports is equipped with a combination of a gasoline engine and a small battery that is particularly efficient in the city and can power the car on its own over short distances. This reduces emissions and makes the car more economical on the road. This system works especially well in urban environments. The Corolla wagon also has a decent range and is comfortable and pleasant to drive.
Kia Niro EV
The electric version of the Niro, called the Kia Niro EV, meets all the necessary criteria: it is comfortable, spacious, economical and well equipped. The declared range of the Niro EV is 460 km, but in reality it does not disappoint. Especially in city conditions. Although it may not be enough for long-distance travel. The trunk has a relatively small volume of 475 liters, but it will be enough for city trips.
Volkswagen Touran
The Volkswagen Touran is one of the few surviving members of the minivan class. It's a great car with decent passenger space, low operating costs, comfortable driving, and a range of efficient engines. Another advantage of the Touran is that it can accommodate a driver and six passengers, which expands the possibilities for passenger transportation.
Ford Grand Tourneo Connect
A taxi is primarily a work tool, so a horse based on a Ford van should be a good choice for such a vehicle. The word Grand in the name of the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect means that this is a seven-seater car, not a regular five-seater. However, whichever version you choose, they both offer impressive practicality and plenty of room for six passengers or four people and mountains of luggage.
Mercedes E-Class PHEV
This choice can be a very good one for executive taxis. In particular, in the hybrid form of the Mercedes E-Class PHEV, the German remains a very smart and efficient option for high-quality passenger transport. Despite the fact that there are gasoline or diesel alternatives, the Mercedes PHEV has the best range on the market - for the E-Class, it is about 110 km. The only drawback of this choice is the limited space in the trunk. Otherwise, there are no compromises on comfort.
Volkswagen Multivan
To be fair, the Volkswagen Multivan is not cheap, but it is a practical, spacious, and very recognizable minibus in its style. The flexibility of the interior layout is impressive: the seats can be moved, or they can be completely removed to use all the space for luggage. The model is also available with gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powertrains. As already mentioned, this is a rather expensive car, but the sliding doors, huge space for seven people, a decent amount of luggage space, and overall ease of driving make it quite obviously attractive.
Lexus ES
Another option for premium taxis. The interior of this hybrid is impeccably finished and has plenty of space for passengers. It will be quiet and comfortable even in the front seat. Lexus ES is also equipped with all the latest safety systems. Thanks to the "self-charging" gasoline-electric hybrid system, emissions from the car are quite low. And the fuel consumption of 4.3 liters per 100 km for a sedan with a capacity of 218 hp looks quite attractive.
Citroen e-Berlingo
The Berlingo remains a very practical car even after switching to an electric motor. In addition, it will provide seven full seats in the cabin in the XL configuration. However, the range is still not the e-Berlingo's strongest point. The manufacturer promises 285 km, but don't expect more than 160 if you don't want any unpleasant surprises. The model is also not too fast or maneuverable, but it is roomy and hardworking - it can transport people and objects efficiently and silently.
