"Still doesn't understand": Russia says Usyk "forced" Fury to end his career

Oleksandr ChekanovNews
Drozd praised Fury's decision

Two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) were the main reason for Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) to decide to retire. The Gypsy King, as the native of Morkham is called, failed to find a way to defeat the Ukrainian, which shook his self-confidence.

This opinion was expressed by former world heavyweight champion Grigory Drozd in an interview with bookmaker-ratings.ru. According to the Russian, Fury faced an opponent who was stronger than him for the first time, which affected him. The ex-boxer added that he would not be surprised if Tyson returns, as he has done twice before.

"His current statement does not surprise me. And I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to get back in the ring. Tyson is not that old yet, and he could box at a high level for a few more years. However, Usyk has undoubtedly undermined his confidence. For the first time, Fury faced an opponent who was stronger. He never found the keys to defeating Usyk and maybe he still doesn't understand how to do it. I think that's what made him think about ending his career," Drozd said.

It is important to note that Tyson has already announced his retirement twice. In 2017, he announced that he was retiring from boxing after defeating Volodymyr Klychko, and in 2022, after defeating Dillian Whyte (30-3, 20 KOs). After those announcements, Fury returned to the ring a few months later.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, a video of what Tyson Fury wrote on the flag of Ukraine after his defeat by Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch has appeared.
