So without Biden: White House announces head of US delegation to Peace Summit

U.S. President Joe Biden will not attend the Peace Summit to be held in Switzerland on June 15-16. Washington will be represented at the event by Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

This is stated in a statement by the administration of the American leader. So far, more than 100 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the event.

"The vice president will emphasize the Biden-Harris administration's commitment to supporting Ukraine's efforts to secure a just and lasting peace based on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the principles of the UN Charter," the White House said in a statement.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will travel to Lucerne with Kamala Harris. The two will represent the United States at the summit.

Earlier, it was reported that US President Joe Biden would skip the Ukrainian Peace Summit in Switzerland because the event will coincide with a fundraiser for Biden's election campaign in California, which he is holding with a number of Hollywood stars and with the participation of former President Barack Obama.

In late May, White House spokesperson Karin Jean-Pierre confirmed that the US delegation would participate in the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. The US Presidential Administration emphasized that whoever represents Washington at this event will not change the level of support for Ukraine.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he would like to see Biden at the Peace Summit in Switzerland. If he ignores the summit in Switzerland, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will "give him a standing ovation."

– The UN will take part in the Peace Summit in Switzerland. This became known following a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

– India will participate in the Peace Summit. It has not yet been announced who will represent New Delhi.

– Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has decided not to participate in the Global Peace Summit on Ukraine, which will be held in June in Switzerland. This is due to the fact that the countries of the so-called Global South have reservations about the sanctions imposed by the West against Russia over its war in Ukraine.

– Zelenskyy invited Argentine President Javier Milea to participate in the first peace summit in Ukraine. The event will take place in June 2024 in Switzerland.
