Six warning signs in your car: never ignore them

Alina MilsentNews

Traffic rules are the foundation of driving, but it's important to be able to recognize certain signals sent by your car to stay safe on the road. Drivers often ignore warning lights on the dashboard and risk getting into trouble.

Experts urge you to pay attention to dashboard notifications, especially in winter weather. The Sun has described the six signals that warn of danger

ABS/brake fluid warning

Drivers should be cautious if the ABS or brake fluid warning lights appear. They signal a faulty brake pad or engine sensor.

Fully functioning brakes are crucial for vehicle safety, so if this indicator comes on, have it checked by a specialist immediately.

ECU/engine check engine light

Most ECU monitoring systems use a yellow and red coding to indicate the degree of malfunction. A red light warns of a serious malfunction. If the light comes on while on the road, you should stop the vehicle and call the emergency services immediately. A yellow warning light usually indicates a malfunction in the exhaust system.

Airbag warning light

The warning light will come on if there is a problem with the airbag system or the seat belt mechanism. This usually means the system needs to be checked, or there is a problem with the battery or wiring. Experts recommend pulling over safely or driving carefully to a garage if you see this indicator on your dashboard.

This feature is especially important because if you are involved in an accident with the warning light on, the airbags will not deploy for you or a passenger.

Particulate filter warning light

In diesel engines, soot can sometimes build up in the exhaust and cause blockages. Cars have a built-in "regenerator" that burns soot and removes the buildup, but this only happens when driving at certain speeds. If you do not remove soot buildup in the exhaust, airflow will be reduced and vehicle performance may be impaired.

Battery charge indicator

If the battery warning light comes on when you turn on the vehicle and remains on while the engine is running, there is a problem with the charging system. This could be due to a loose cable or cold temperatures that slow down the chemical process in the battery, which impairs its ability to hold a charge.

Oil pressure warning light

An oil pressure warning light can mean anything from low fluid to a vehicle engine malfunction. It can cause serious damage. If the warning comes on while driving, experts say you should stop and call a mechanic or roadside assistance.
