"Shakhtar" appoints club legend as new head coach

Shakhtar Donetsk's legendary captain Darijo Srna has been appointed acting head coach after Dutchman Patrick van Leeuwen was dismissed. The former Croatian national team player will prepare the team for the upcoming matches.
This is stated on the official website of the Miners. However, it is not reported whether Srna has the opportunity to take the position of the Orange and Blacks coach on a full-time basis. Prior to that, the 41-year-old native of Metkovic was the sporting director of the Donetsk club.
Srna has become a true legend at Shakhtar Donetsk, which he joined in 2003. He spent 15 years of his career with the team, playing 537 matches for the Donetsk side, making him the best player in the history of the Ukrainian club. He scored 49 goals and provided 121 assists.
It should be noted that van Leeuwen was dismissed as the Shakhtar head coach 3.5 months after his appointment. He led the team for 12 matches, in which it won seven.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on October 4, Shakhtar Donetsk made a fantastic comeback in the Champions League match, beating Antwerp 3-2.
