Schengen visa application forms to change starting from July: what awaits tourists in 2024

Several Schengen countries have changed the application forms that must be filled out to obtain a visa. Despite the minimal modifications to the forms, consulates will accept the new variant only.

Travelers who appear at a diplomatic mission with outdated applications will have to familiarize themselves with the new rules. The changes introduced by several European countries are minor but important. OBOZ.UA found the questionnaires on the Sweden Abroad website.

The main difference between the new and old forms is the procedure for filling in personal data. From now on, those wishing to obtain a Schengen visa must first indicate their personal data, whether they are related to EU, EEA or Swiss citizens, their place of work and the purpose of their stay in the country. Only at the end of the application the tourist has to indicate travel and accommodation costs.

A new change that confused a large number of travelers was the update of the Schengen visa application form for Italy, which will come into effect on July 8. In addition to male and female, a new "other" option has been added to the "gender" column, which makes it easier for non-binary people to fill out applications.

The new rules for filling out traveler forms will also be introduced in other European countries. The Consulate of Sweden requires new forms from June 28, Hungary from July 1, and Bulgaria from July 4.
