Saratov Oil Refinery, one of Russia's key fuels infrastructure facilities, catches fire after drone attack. Photo and video
On the night of February 11, Ukrainian drones attacked Russia's Saratov Oir Refinery and a military airfield in neighboring Engels. Fires broke out at both facilities, which the aggressor uses in its war against Ukraine.
The footage of the attacks was posted online by residents of these cities. They reported hits, but the authorities of the Saratov region insisted that "every taget was shot down" and that an "industrial enterprise" had allegedly suffered damage.
In particular, in Saratov, Russians spent the whole night filming video of explosions and fires that broke out near the oil refinery.
The regional governor claimed that "air defense forces destroyed the UAVs." He confirmed minor damage "at an industrial enterprise," emphasizing that there were no casualties.
The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko, commented on the incident, reminding that this is not the first time the Saratov Oil Refinery has been targeted.
"This is one of the key facilities of the Russian fuels infrastructure. Its refining capacity reaches 7 million tons of oil per year. The refinery plays an important role in supplying the Russian army with fuel. Back in World War II, it was a critical object for military logistics, and today it remains an important element of fuel supply," he explained.
He also emphasized that in addition to the refinery, the aggressor's military airfield in Engels, located on the opposite bank of the Volga River from Saratov, was also attacked.
Russian Telegram channels published a series of images showing explosions and flashes at a military airfield. It is from this base that Russians scramble their strategic bombers to launch cruise missiles at Ukraine's civilian infrastructure regularly, and last night Ukrainian monitoring channels reported that a group of such bombers were in the air, so they warned of a possible missile attack in the morning.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the Saratov region. It was carried out by units of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the DIU and the SOF in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces.
As reported, on the night of February 5, Ukrainian drones attacked the Albashneft oil depot in Russian Krasnodar Territory. As a result of the explosions, the enemy facility suffered significant damage.
