Former Ukrainian basketball player killed in Russia's missile attack on Lviv
Former Ukrainian national basketball player Viktor Kobzystyi died in Lviv during a missile attack by Russian terrorists on December 29. The participant of two European Championships, who finished his career in 2011, was 44 years old.
The president of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine (FBU) Mykhailo Brodskyi said this on his Facebook page. "Vitia Kobzystyi died today. It's painful," he wrote.
This information was confirmed by Anton Nikulin, head of the Lviv City Council's sports department, "Today, during the insidious shelling of our city by Russian missiles, Viktor Kobzystyi, a Ukrainian basketball player, coach, and international master of sports of Ukraine, was killed. My condolences to his family and friends."
During his career, Kobzystyi played for Naftokhimik (Kremenchuk), CSKA Riko, Budivelnyk Kyiv, Azovmash Mariupol, and Dnipro. He won the 2011 Ukrainian championship with Budivelnyk after taking silver a year earlier. He played for the national team at two EuroBasketball tournaments (2001 and 2005) and Universiades (2003 and 2005).
After his retirement, he worked as a coach for Budivelnyk and DniproAZOT in Dnipro, and was also the president of BC Kremin.
