Russian loses 4-0 to world number 184: the longest match in history played at US Open
The longest match in the history of the tournament in the men's draw was played on the courts of the US Open-2024. The British Dan Evans and Karen Khachanov of Russia fought a fierce battle in the first round, needing all five sets to determine the winner.
The tennis players spent 5 hours and 35 minutes on the court. They surpassed the previous record, which was set in 1992, by nine minutes. Back then, Swedish Stefan Edberg and American Michael Chang fought in the semifinals.
Khachanov and Evans gave the audience a real drama, which peaked in the final game. The Russian, ranked 22nd in the world rankings, led 4-0, but then the tennis player from Great Britain (No. 184) turned everything upside down, winning six games in a row and taking the match 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
It is worth noting that the longest match in the history of men's tennis will probably remain the confrontation between American John Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut for a very long time. At Wimbledon 2010, they spent an unrealistic 11 hours and 5 minutes on the court, which stretched over three game days, and Isner won the deciding game with a score of 70:68.
