Russian fighter knocked out in the 1st round in the UFC championship fight. Video
Russian Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Sergey Pavlovich (18-2) suffered a shameful defeat in the fight for the interim heavyweight championship. The 5-round bout against Englishman Tom Aspinall (14-3) at UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden in New York (USA) ended early.
The 31-year-old from Rostov looked unconvincing in the ring from the first seconds. The English fighter accurately attacked with low kicks, to which the Russian was able to respond with a heavy double-leg.
In the 2nd minute, Pavlovich tried to move forward more actively but faced two accurate hooks to the temple.
Pavlovich collapsed to the canvas, and Aspinall rushed to finish him off. The referee immediately stopped the fight, awarding the victory to the 30-year-old Manchester native.
After the winner was announced, the English fighter said he was fighting with an injury.
"I recently hurt my back and couldn't train for the last 10 days. I was only allowed to fight this evening," the interim UFC champion admitted.
"It's been a crazy two and a half weeks. Remember: if you have an opportunity, use it. Pavlovich is a big and scary guy, but I always believed in myself. I'm dedicating this belt to my dad," Aspinall commented on his victory.
