Russian corporal sentenced to life imprisonment after shooting dead four colleagues, including a lieutenant colonel

In Russia, corporal Nikita Posmetukhov was convicted of shooting dead four of his colleagues, including a lieutenant colonel. The Southern District Military Court sentenced him to life imprisonment.

This is reported by Mediazona with reference to the court. Posmetukhov was found guilty of murdering two or more people in the line of duty motivated by hooliganism, as well as violent acts against military commanders in an armed conflict.

The incident occurred in the 17th Tank Regiment of the 70th Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Federation on the night of November 28, 2023.

It is reported that corporal Posmetukhov was drinking alcohol with his fellow soldiers, after which he took an assault rifle and went to the command dugout. When he knocked on the door, patrol officers called him out, and then he opened fire at them, killing Junior Sergeant Vladimir Glazyev.

He then entered the dugout and shot Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Klyukin, Captain Mikhail Trubin, and Private Vladimir Petrichenko, who were sleeping. He was then detained by two privates.

The order of the commander of the Russia's Dnieper group, Mikhail Teplinsky, stated that Posmetukhov was angry with Captain Komarovsky, who had disciplined him and promised to deploy him to an assault unit. However, in the end, Komarovsky was not among the victims of the shooting.

"The order further outlined multiple instances of misconduct within the regiment and stressed the need for preventative measures and strong disciplinary action. It suggested that the incident occurred, in part, because Posmetukhov had not previously been assigned to a storm company or disciplinary battalion for earlier violations misconduct within the regiment," the journalists report.
