Russia under-21 national football team suspended from 2028 Olympics

The Russian youth national football team will not take part in the draw for the 2027 UEFA U21 European Championship qualifying tournament. The ceremony will take place on February 6, and the representatives of the aggressor country were not allowed to compete due to their suspension from international competitions.

This is stated on the website of the Football Association of Wales. The continental championship, which will be hosted by Albania and Serbia, will be a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This means that Russian football players will not be able to play on US fields even theoretically.

The 51 national teams (in addition to the hosts and the Russians, the disbanded Liechtenstein team will not appear at the competition too) will be divided into six pots. The Ukrainians are among the seeded and will be able to avoid meeting the English, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Germans, French, Italians, and Danes.

It should be noted that this summer, Croatia and Slovakia will host the youth Euro 2025. Our players have successfully qualified and will face the Finns, the Dutch and the Danes in the group stage of the tournament. It is also worth mentioning that Ukraine played at the Olympic Games for the first time, qualifying for Paris 2024.
