Russia claims to have shot down a UAV 100 km from Putin's VIP summer residence
On the night of January 29, several Russian regions were attacked by Ukrainian drones. One of the drones was shot down by Russian air defense over Lake Ladoga in the Leningrad region.
Approximately 100 kilometers from where the drone crashed is the dacha of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's friends, where he could have been vacationing at the time of the attack. This is reported by the Russian edition of the Agency.
"During a nighttime drone attack across Russia's regions, air defense forces shot down one of the UAVs near the shore of Lake Ladoga in the Leningrad region. On this lake, about 100 kilometers from the area where the drone crashed, there is a Karelian dacha of Putin's friends, where the president himself could have vacationed," the newspaper writes.
According to the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, the drone was shot down by Russian air defense in the Vsevolozhsky district of the Leningrad region. He said there was no damage or casualties, but did not specify the location of the drone's crash.
At the same time, the Agency emphasizes that the Maryalakhti Bay is located approximately 115-170 km (depending on the point on the shore) in a straight line from the lake shore in Vsevolozhsk district.
"There is a plot of land there that, as Rain wrote in 2016, was owned by the Prime company, controlled by Putin's friends Yuri Kovalchko and his son Boris. Locals call this area "Putin's dacha." A Dozhd source also said that the residence was built for the president's visits. In 2022, The Guardian published details of the interiors of this complex with marble floors and a $10,000 bidet. According to the newspaper, there is a private brewery, a tea room overlooking the lake, two swimming pools, and a path to the waterfall, which used to be a tourist attraction before it was fenced off. And in 2024, a video from a drone flying over the residence was published by the Dossier Center: it shows yacht piers, a trout farm, a farm with cows, and yacht piers," the publication writes.
The Kremlin has traditionally denied that Putin has anything to do with these facilities on Lake Ladoga. And the Agency noted that Ukrainian drones have already made adjustments to the dictator's leisure activities.
"Drone attacks have already changed the president's vacation. Last year, as Project reported, Putin practically stopped flying to Sochi, where he used to spend a significant part of spring and fall. A journalist source explained this as the head of state's fear for his life after drone attacks on city facilities. By March 2024, the official residence of the president, Bocharov Stream, was even demolished in the city," the Agency writes.
On the morning of January 29, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the "destruction" of 104 Ukrainian UAVs: 47 UAVs over Kursk, 27 over Bryansk, 11 over Smolensk, 7 over Tver, 4 over Belgorod, 3 over Nizhny Novgorod, 3 over Kaluga and one over Rostov and Leningrad regions.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that the DIU and the General Staff confirmed the attack on the Lukoil oil depot in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region. All 4 drones out of 4 launched at this target hit the facility. A large-scale fire broke out there after the arrivals.
