Russia attacked Kyiv with Shahed drones: an apartment building was hit, there are casualties. All details and photos

A series of explosions occurred in Kyiv late on Thursday evening, December 21. It happened during an air raid alert related to another drone attack by the aggressor country Russia on Ukraine. A residential high-rise building was damaged in the Solomianskyi district, and debris was also seen falling in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts.

As of 0:30 a.m. on Friday, at least two residents of the capital were reported injured.

At the beginning of the shelling, local channels wrote that the air defense of our country was operating in the capital. At 23:35, this was confirmed by Mayor Vitalii Klychko on his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian Air Force had previously warned that the occupiers had traditionally launched Shahed-131\136 at Ukraine. Enemy attack UAVs were spotted in different regions.

Kyiv residents heard explosions around 23:00. In some areas, sounds characteristic of drones flying were also recorded.

At 23:47, Klychko said that rescuers had responded to a report of a hit on a residential building in the Solomianskyi district.

A few minutes later, the mayor wrote, "Upper floors are burning. Emergency services are at the scene".

Kyiv Military Administration reported around midnight that debris hit a residential building as a result of air defense work in the Solomianskyi district.

At 0:15 a.m. on Friday, December 22, the Kyiv RMA informed that the destruction of Russian drones continued.

"The debris of the downed drones hit a high-rise building in the Solomianskyi district with subsequent fire on the upper floors. Debris was also recorded falling in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts," the post reads.

According to Klychko, at 0:11, at least one person was injured in the Solomianskyi district of the capital and later hospitalized. At 0:33, the mayor clarified that a second victim had been reported. He was treated on the spot.

The National Police press service reported that it was documenting the aftermath of the attack on Kyiv. The fire started on the 24th floor and was extinguished before the arrival of fire and rescue units. The facade was damaged, three apartments had partial destruction of walls on the 24th-26th floors, and three more had broken windows, the SES said.

According to social media, one of the destroyed apartments belongs to Ukrainian news anchor Andrii Kovalskyi and his wife.

At 1:31 a.m., Klychko wrote that "as a result of a hit to a residential building, the load-bearing walls between the 24th, 25th and 26th floors were partially destroyed in the Solomianskyi district."

An unfinished private house caught fire in the Darnytskyi district, where the wreckage of a UAV fell too, Vitalii Klychko said at 0:37 a.m. on Friday.

The interim head of the Darnytskyi District State Administration in Kyiv, Mykola Kalashnyk, showed photos and clarified that it was a two-story building and no one was inside.

The fire started in a room on the second floor. The fire was extinguished in an area of 20 square meters. There were no casualties, the rescuers said.

Windows in residential buildings nearby were blown out by the blast wave, and debris damaged facades and fences.

According to the updated data of the Kyiv RMA on Friday morning, one of the enemy drones caused damage in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, where drone debris engulfed the upper floors of the building, partially destroyed walls in three apartments and smashed windows in three more. There are two victims with bruises of soft tissue and cut wounds, one of them was hospitalized.

A fire broke out in a two-story private house in the Darnytskyi district as a result of the fall of drone debris, no injuries were reported. Debris fall in the Holosiivskyi district resulted in no damage and no injuries.

"The information is being updated and clarified. We will restore the damaged buildings. But we cannot restore lives. So the most important thing is that Kyiv survived this blow without casualties. Take care of yourself and believe in the Armed Forces of Ukraine!" the head of the department Serhii Popko said.
