Two "regular" owls of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine will live in the Kyiv Zoo. They were rescued in the Kharkiv region by the warriors of a company of strike unmanned aerial vehicles during a combat mission.

This was reported by the press service of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The birds will undergo rehabilitation and adaptation.

"On August 1, 2024, representatives of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine handed over two owls to the Kyiv Zoo – now they will live in a special aviary. The birds' names are Arei and Magura, and their story could have ended tragically if not for the warriors of the 92nd separate assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the press service said.

According to the DIU, during a combat mission near the village of Liptsi, Kharkiv region, fighters of the Achilles company of the 92nd Separate Airborne Brigade found owlets in a house destroyed by shelling in the liberated territory. They were in a cage, hungry and exhausted. That is why they were evacuated from the combat zone.

"They saved two owlets that would have died without Ukrainian defenders. Actually, our soldiers save lives not only of Ukrainian people but also of our smaller brothers," said Andrii Yusov, representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

As the owl is a symbol of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine, the soldiers of the 92nd Brigade handed the rescued birds over to the care of the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov. He decided that Arei and Magura should find a new home in Kyiv Zoo.

"I am very glad that the guys did a great job and handed over these animals to us. Everything will be fine with them – 100%. We rehabilitate the animals, adapt them, and try to do our best to make sure that they are fine even in such difficult times," added Kyrylo Trantyn, the director general of Kyiv Zoo.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, cubs of the bison family can be seen in the Kyiv Zoo. Kazka and Liyka were born only last month, but they are already playing in the enclosure where their parents are watching them closely.
