Start-stop button saves fuel and reduces emissions

New cars are equipped with so many different useful features - big and small - that it's easy to forget about them on the road. However, some of these features can be very useful. For example, one that allows you to save up to 12% of fuel and is definitely worth paying attention to.

According to the Express, blogger Megan's Bubble drew attention to it on TikTok. This is the start-stop function, which is activated by pressing a button with an icon in the shape of the letter A with a circular arrow around it or with the corresponding inscription. In fact, in newer cars, this button replaces the ignition key.

It can be used to automatically turn off the car when it is not moving for a long time. For example, this mode will work when you're at a traffic light or stopped for a few minutes for business. The engine can be restarted by releasing the brake, engaging the clutch, or pressing the accelerator. This way, the button is supposed to reduce emissions and thus save fuel.

This technology is based on another function that detects when the car is not moving or when it is turned off. In this case, the fuel supply to the engine is stopped. This, in particular, prevents the engine from idling. And for drivers who have to stop frequently for one reason or another, this saves up to 12% of fuel.

Pedestrians also benefit from this, as the car will emit significantly fewer emissions. The ability of start-stop systems to reduce emissions is especially important in cities where traffic jams often occur.
