Italy has rightfully earned the fame of the most popular tourist country in Europe. Its historic cities and picturesque provinces attract millions of tourists every year. But even here, you can find regions that for some reason are undeservedly overlooked.

According to the Express, it is this "forgotten" region that boasts the charm of popular Tuscany and at the same time a much smaller flow of tourists. In this northern region, tourists can visit charming hilltop towns and villages, admire picturesque hilly landscapes, and explore the rich local cultural heritage.

We are talking, of course, about the wonderful Emilia-Romagna region, which has access to the Adriatic Sea in the east, is bounded by the Po River in the north, and borders the Apennine Mountains in the south. It is a place where history comes alive on cobblestone streets, in medieval castles and houses, and in family-run trattorias that offer a variety of local specialties on their menus.

Experts in luxury travel to Italy Citalia have recently noted that most tourists have begun to prefer less crowded regions of the country. And Emilia-Romagna can be an ideal place to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle under the warm Italian sun.

Gourmets will not be left without vivid impressions either, as Emilia-Romagna is home to world-famous dishes such as Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, balsamic vinegar, and the famous Bolognese sauce.

But this region offers more than just culinary delights; it is a land rich in unique and ancient cities, wineries, and vineyards, as well as Roman ruins. Start your journey in the region's capital, Bologna, a university city known for its unique energy and red roofs.

The city is home to the world's oldest university, and its historic center boasts magnificent medieval architecture, including the legendary porticoes of Bologna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They stretch for more than 38 kilometers.

From Bologna, travelers can take a scenic drive through the countryside and visit charming cities such as Modena and Parma, which are nestled among Italy's famous farmland. Modena, famous for its balsamic vinegar, shows a more measured pace of life and delights with impressive medieval architecture, while Parma is home to world-class art and fine cuisine.

To get an even deeper sense of the region's historical richness, it's worth visiting small towns like Sant'Agata Bolognese and Dozza. The local winding streets and ancient fortresses have also seen many notable events.

The region's hills are dotted with vineyards and olive groves, creating a recognizable Italian landscape. Go hiking and cycling. And don't forget about tasting local wines.

And for those who want a real adventure during their vacation, Emilia-Romagna offers the stunning Apennine Mountains. They are ideal for travelers who are looking for thrills and prefer a more active vacation.
