A "wasp spider" (Argiope bruennichi) was spotted in the fields near Boryspil, Kyiv region. This species of arthropod is poisonous, but the venom is safe for humans if they are not allergic.

This was reported on social media. They are common in the temperate and subtropical zones of the Palearctic, including Ukraine.

"A wasp spider was spotted in the Kyiv region. We are told that the individuals of this particular species are very large. Literally everything is teeming with them near Boryspil," the report says.

The argiope bruennichi is a brightly colored spider from the Araneidae family, with a striped yellow, black, and white abdomen. Its venom is dangerous if you are allergic. It can even be fatal.

They can be found in the temperate and subtropical zones of Europe, Central Asia, China, the Far East, and Japan. It is also common throughout Ukraine, except for the mountains. They mostly live in Volyn, Rivne, Ternopil, and Kyiv regions.
