Now it's official: Toyota confirms development of long-awaited low-cost model
Toyota has previously hinted that it wants to bring back an inexpensive sports car model that will delight with its design and driving behavior. Now it has been officially confirmed that the 8th generation Celica sports coupe is in development.
Almost 20 years ago, this car was removed from the model lineup, and now it has become known about the revival. The details are reported by Motor1. The company has long been considering the return of the Toyota Celica to the lineup. The new car is expected to be unveiled in early 2025.
The company has previously reported that testing of a new entry-level sports model with a manual transmission has begun. Obviously, the new Toyota Celica Mk8 is not currently considered an electric car. However, strict environmental regulations require some electrification. Therefore, the car could be launched with a hybrid powertrain.
On the other hand, this is contradicted by information about a possible engine – a four-cylinder unit with a volume of 2 liters. Moreover, the powerplant was mentioned in conjunction with all-wheel drive.
Also, you should not give up on a more powerful option within the Gazoo Racing (Toyota GR) line. Unless, of course, they decide to offer the base model under this badge first.
