Not long to wait: the media learned when Usyk's fight for the title of absolute champion is to take place
Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) is close to fighting for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion for the second time in his career. Our compatriot is scheduled to take on the British Daniel Dubois (22-2, 16 KOs) in a unification fight this summer.
This was reported by the World Boxing News portal. According to the portal, the option of holding a second fight between Usyk and Dubois is a priority for the organizers of boxing nights from Saudi Arabia, who today have virtually complete control over the sport.
Usyk and Dubois are expected to fight for the super heavyweight title in June or a little later. The fight itself will take place either in Riyadh or the UK. Interestingly, Oleksandr spoke in favor of holding the fight at the legendary Wembley Stadium in London, where he fought in 2020.
It is interesting that New Zealander Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) and German Agit Kabayel (26-0, 18 KOs) may fight on the undercard of the Usyk-Dubois rematch, which will determine the contender for the fight with the absolute champion.
We would like to remind you that our compatriot already fought the Briton in August 2023. Back then, Oleksandr won by TKO in the ninth round, and Daniel scored a dirty punch below the belt.
Earlier it became known that Usyk could be stripped of his World Boxing Council (WBC) belt. Usyk himself said when he intends to retire. Oleksandr also said that he is preparing to hold the most unusual fight of his career.
As OBOZ.UA reported, Oleksandr Usyk demonstrated his attitude towards Russia at a boxing event in Riyadh. His act caused a real hysteria in Russia.
