New fines have been prepared for Ukrainian drivers: how much and for what they will have to pay
Starting February 1, 2025, traffic in Ukraine will be banned in the territories of the nature reserve fund, and violators will be obliged to pay fines and compensation for damage. Fines can range from 4,000 to 8,000 hryvnias for illegal travel.
This is stated in Law No. 4188-IX, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. One of the key changes is a ban on the movement of motor vehicles in the territory of the nature reserve fund (NRF), including all types of transport - from mopeds and motorcycles to trucks.
According to the new rules, any vehicle traveling in protected areas is considered a violation. Violators are subject to fines:
- for citizens - from UAH 153 to 408;
- for officials - from UAH 255 to 510.
These fines are only part of the penalty, as violators are obliged to compensate for the damage caused to natural areas. According to the law, the amount of compensation for every 100 meters of illegal travel is
- for mopeds, motorcycles and scooters - UAH 4020.80;
- for cars, minibuses, pickup trucks - UAH 6428.80
- for buses and trucks - UAH 8848.
These compensation payments are significantly higher than the amount of fines, which is an important factor in deterring violations. The purpose of this law is not only to fine violators, but also to encourage a more cautious attitude towards nature.
Legislative innovations also provide for the introduction of fines for drivers for excessive noise emanating from vehicles. This is an additional measure to reduce environmental damage from transport and provide more comfortable living conditions for people and animals in protected areas.
Protected areas in Ukraine suffer from excessive human activity. Traffic in these areas causes the destruction of ecosystems, deterioration of air quality and disruption of natural habitats. According to the new legislation, the measures taken will help preserve the natural heritage for future generations and prevent negative environmental consequences.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Ukrainians may be fined UAH 34,000 and deprived of their driving privileges for excessive car noise, including modifications to the exhaust system and violations of the permissible noise level. However, the police do not yet have the necessary devices to measure noise, and the control mechanism remains unclear.
