Sports lawyer Catherine Forshaw said that Ukrainian midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk may retire from the national team due to the doping scandal. According to Forshaw, not only his club but also the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) may impose sanctions on Mykhailo.

"This [doping scandal] also falls under the jurisdiction of UEFA-FIFA. The English Football Federation (FA) will share its findings, so there may be wider consequences. The UAF can say to Mudryk: "You are banned from ever representing your country again," so it's not just a question of what the consequences will be for Chelsea," Forshaw was quoted as saying by givemesport.com.

According to the lawyer, the London club can use any punishment options.

"There are open paths for Chelsea. If there are sanctions, Mudryk's eight-year contract could become a problem. Depending on the terms of the employment contract, Chelsea may consider terminating it. They will certainly consider the costs associated with his absence from the game for four years. It is a significant period," the lawyer emphasized.

Forshaw suggests that if Mudryk faces a two-year ban, Chelsea will want to terminate his contract.

"I can't imagine Chelsea just sitting back and letting the ban run its course," the expert concluded.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Mykhailo Mudryk is suspected of using banned substances. The 23-year-old left winger passed a positive doping test after one of the matches in late October, after which he was no longer included in his club's application.

Mykhailo confirmed that the test showed the presence of a banned substance in his body. Our compatriot said he was shocked by the results because he had never used doping.

According to preliminary information, meldonium (mildronate) was found in Mudryk's sample. This drug, which has become particularly popular in Russia since 2014, is banned for use by athletes.

It also became known that Mudryk was suspended from training at the club's base in Cobham,
