The classic British car brand Mini is currently going through a period of transformation. The most popular models are becoming fully electric.

According to Motor1, an updated Mini Cooper, the John Cooper Works variant, has entered the market. The John Cooper Works Electric and John Cooper Works Aceman electric cars are now available to buyers. The first is a three-door hatchback, and the second is a more practical five-door crossover. Both variants are built on the same base and have more power, as well as additional changes in equipment.

The electric duo is front-wheel drive only, offering same engines with 255 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The JCW adds an extra 40 hp (30 kW) and 20 Nm compared to the Cooper Hardtop and Aceman in SE specification. Mini claims 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds for the hatchback and 6.4 seconds for the subcompact crossover. The former reduces this figure by 0.8 seconds, and the latter by 0.7 seconds.

Mini has added a supercharging function to the new models, which temporarily increases the output by 27 hp (20 kW). This should come in handy when overtaking or when you want to maximize the potential of the electric motor during acceleration. The JCW electric models also benefit from improved brakes for superior stopping power and standard "high grip" tires.

The hatchback has 18-inch alloy wheels, while the crossover has larger, 19-inch wheels. Both have more JCW logos and additional red accents, but overall they look almost the same as the younger versions with the same name. In addition to the usual JCW logo, the three-door model has a checkered flag on the rear door, while the Aceman has not.

The interior is quite business-like, and the new JCW models retain the red and black theme. However, the roof lighting distinguishes them from the regular Cooper 3-Door and Aceman in JCW trim. As with all other Minis, the seats of the new models are covered with synthetic leather. The front seats feature multicolored knit fabric and red contrast stitching.

Neither the Cooper JCW nor the Aceman JCW will be available in the United States yet. Both electric vehicles are produced exclusively in China, but that will soon change. Starting in 2026, Mini will assemble both cars at home in Oxford, UK. Most likely, at least one of them will make it to North America once production begins in the UK.
