May holidays in Europe: time to plan a trip
It is the last month of spring, so why not take a mini vacation filled with vivid impressions? We don't see any reason to deny ourselves, so we've compiled a selection of atypical routes for you!
Playa Blanca, Spain
A paradise with white sand and crystal water. Over the years, the beach has received various awards for environmental protection.
Initially, it was a small fishing village. However, the area has always been visited by foreigners because a ferry port was built here. Compared to other resorts in Lanzarote, Playa Blanca is the quietest and the most peaceful.
Here you can practice various water sports, namely:
- snorkeling (swimming under the surface of the water with a mask and a breathing tube)
- wakeboarding (riding on a short, wide board while holding onto a shaft and moving behind a boat)
- diving (diving underwater with special equipment).
Playa Blanca has something for everyone.
Crete, Greece
It attracts many tourists with its beaches, food, and history.
Try the local cuisine:
- Cretan cheese
- delicious feta and herb appetizers
- dakos
If you want to do something truly unique, go on a wine tasting tour. Here you can enjoy a variety of wines. Or sign up for traditional cooking classes, where guests are taught how to cook national dishes.
In the capital, there is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of Greece and to learn more about the mythology of the region.
It is worth visiting the Palace of Knossos. It is located just 5 kilometers from Heraklion and is a fascinating archaeological site of the Minoan civilization.
Tip: go to the building early in the morning or in the evening when there are no big crowds.
Saundersfoot, United Kingdom
A small seaside resort between Tenby and Amroth. It is much more compact than the previous two but has its own charm and character. There is a lively harbor at the southern end of the beach.
The location is also known locally for a charity swim on New Year's Eve. It is sponsored by a local businessman.
In fact, there used to be a village here, which grew due to the heyday of the mining industry. Although there is nothing left of the mines, you can still visit the old coal office. It is located in the center of the town. By the way, the tram tunnels have also been preserved here. They form a section of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, which connects Saundersfoot with neighboring beaches.
Berlengas Islands, Portugal
The archipelago is often destroyed by powerful storms, so shipwrecks used to happen here all the time. In the 16th century, a monastery was even built on Berlenga Grande to save sailors in distress. But it was soon abandoned because of pirate raids.
The best way to explore the largest island is to walk along the trail along it. You might come across the Fortress São João Baptista. This is a military structure built to protect the Portuguese coast from attacks by sea robbers from Spain and France.
During the Napoleonic invasions, it served as a base for the British. The view from the cliff above the fort is one of the most beautiful in the area.
Or you can choose to take a boat trip to visit the various caves that nature has created. Excursions on glass-bottomed vessels depart from the harbor in Berlenga Grande. Such a trip allows you to admire the grottoes and the diversity of marine life.
Take a vacation in Europe in May. There are plenty of options. All you have to do is choose a destination and buy tickets. Have a great trip!
