The Spanish island of Mallorca is among the regions of Europe that suffer from an excessive number of tourists. For this reason, starting from the next season, local authorities will introduce stricter restrictions to curb the influx of visitors.

According to the Mirror, the new "bold" restrictions were announced by the head of the Balearic Islands government, Magra Procens. According to her, the residents of Mallorca began to worry about the surge in the island's popularity among tourists. In the summer months, they even went on protests, demanding a transition to a more sustainable approach to tourism.

Prockhans said that the Majorcan authorities have listened to their demands and are preparing a package of both immediate and long-term solutions to help stabilize the flow of tourists. However, she emphasized that there will be no complete revision of the current tourism model. "Tourists are always welcome," the head of the local administration assured.

It is not yet known what kind of measures will be taken. The authorities are working on a set of restrictions that would reduce the number of visitors without reducing the island's tourism revenues. "Moving towards sustainable development and the well-being of all residents is one of the main challenges facing the Balearic Islands. That is why we must transform our model with the bold measures needed for the next season to change the future of our islands from the overall roadmap," Prockhans wrote in her social networks.
