"Light will be on 4 hours a day in the best case scenario": Kyiv residents warned of tight schedules
More severe power outages are possible in Kyiv. In the best-case scenario, there is light for four hours during the day and four hours at night. However, we are talking about the situation in the coming days, by the end of the month the situation may change.
This was reported by Volodymyr Bondarenko, Secretary of the Kyiv City Council, on Day Live. "Unfortunately, the forecasts are not stable yet. Two or three lines will be cut off, which means that the power will be on for 4 hours a day in the best case scenario, 4 hours at night," Bondarenko said.
This is caused by high energy consumption and heat. "Even today we heard from the government that the power capacities of nuclear power plants are being repaired, so we will see a change in the schedules," Bondarenko emphasized.
The application of severe restrictions in the coming days was also confirmed in Kyiv by the power engineers of DTEK. The company has sent out warnings to its customers about the introduction of outages in light gray schedules. This means that each blackout will last 7 hours.
"In the coming days, the heat is expected to reach +40 degrees across Ukraine. Therefore, the electricity deficit is increasing, and we will be forced to limit 4 consumer groups simultaneously at the command of NPC Ukrenergo. This will lead to blackouts in both the gray and light gray zones of the schedules. The white zone of the schedule will be guaranteed to have electricity.
Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center, also spoke about the future improvement of the situation. He noted that the situation could improve in 10 days. It is expected that lower temperatures and the completion of repairs at the nuclear power unit will reduce the electricity shortage and the duration of blackouts.
The Ukrainian government is also taking a range of measures to promote energy resilience among households and businesses. These include repairing and modernizing energy facilities and reducing energy consumption during peak hours. However, improvement is possible only if there is no new damage to the energy infrastructure.
