Legendary Ukrainian coach comments on Rebrov's decision not to include Yarmolenko in the main lineup

Markevych talks about Yarmolenko

Legendary Ukrainian coach Myron Markevych supported Serhiy Rebrov's decision not to include Dynamo captain Andriy Yarmolenko in the main squad for the upcoming matches of the Nations League. The midfielder was in the reserve team for the matches against Georgia (October 11) and the Czech Republic (October 14).

In a commentary to zbirna.com, Markevych emphasized that Yarmolenko, like the midfielder of the Belgian club Westerlo Serhiy Sydorchuk, can do little to help the national team. The former coach of Dnipro and Metalist noted that he expects young players to be invited to the Ukraine's camp.

"I don't find Yarmolenko's absence from the main squad surprising, just like the fact that Sydorchuk didn't receive an invitation. I see no point in calling up either Andriy or Serhiy. They have already given everything they could to the national team. Yarmolenko and Sydorchuk are not strong players in the Ukrainian national team. We need to involve young people, give the younger generation a chance, it's time to hear new names. Our U-21 team is playing well. That's where we need to look for new names for the main team of the country, I think. And when to do this, if not in the matches of the League of Nations? We understand that Rebrov's main task is to make it to the 2026 World Cup with the national team," Markevych said.

As reported, Ukraine's national team had an unsuccessful start in the new draw of the League of Nations. Our team lost first to Albania and then to the Czech Republic.
