Keanu Reeves will return to "John Wick: Chapter 5," but there's bad news for fans

Fans of the John Wick action movie franchise starring Keanu Reeves will have to wait longer than they had hoped for the next installment. Even though the movie universe as a whole will continue to expand.

According to Collider, although the project of the fifth chapter of the story is in active development, the filming will not begin as planned. The film's team, led by director Chad Stahelski, will not be able to start filming in 2025.

It's all because of a new position Stahelski has taken at Lionsgate. He took control of all work on the John Wick franchise and the Highlander reboot. The director is currently focused on the latter project. He plans to relaunch the sci-fi series that started in 1986 and starred Connor McLeod, played by Christopher Lambert. This time, Henry Cavill was entrusted with the central role. The Highlander filming with his participation will start in early 2025 in Scotland.

As for John Wick, insiders managed to find out that Keanu Reeves himself will return to the image of the hired killer around which the story revolves. So, his character will survive, despite the controversial ending of the fourth movie. There are no more details about the fifth installment of the franchise.

Meanwhile, the studio continues to expand this universe with spinoffs. Thus, the premiere of the action thriller Ballerina starring Ana de Armas is scheduled for June 6, 2025. Ian McShane will reprise his role as Winston Scott. Keanu Reeves and the late Lance Reddick, for whom the role of Charon was his last, will also appear in the movie. It is also known about the start of work on the TV show "Under the High Table", as well as the development of an anime series.
