Holyfield speaks out on the Ukrainian
Prominent American boxer Evander Holyfield has warned Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) against delaying his retirement. According to the former absolute world champion in two weight categories, it would be the perfect time for the Ukrainian to leave the ring without being defeated.
Holyfield expressed this opinion in an interview with the Fight Hub TV on YouTube. The 62-year-old boxing legend emphasized that Usyk could announce his retirement right now, but it is obvious that our compatriot is not going to do this today, instead giving his opponents a chance to beat him.
"Well, he’s the undisputed champ, right? If he feels that he’s satisfied, then he can step down. But if he’s not satisfied and feels he needs to make some more money, he has the decision to make. He can retire and say, ‘This is my money, I’m done,’ or he can give somebody else that chance to beat him. I didn’t retire ’cause I did what my momma said. My momma said you don’t quit on a loss. But you don’t want to go so far that all of a sudden you can beat some people, but you can’t beat that younger guy no more. It will catch up with you," said Holyfield.
It should be recalled that Oleksandr defeated Daniel by TKO in the ninth round in August 2023, while the Briton used a dirty punch below the belt. The head of the Saudi General Authority for Entertainment, Turki Al-Sheikh, announced his intention to organize a rematch between them.
