"It was pointless." Bellew made an unexpected confession about Usyk
Former world heavyweight champion Tony Bellew admitted that he deliberately did not rematch with Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) after his defeat in November 2018. The Briton emphasized that the second fight was meaningless due to the Ukrainian's great advantage.
Bellew wrote about this on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter. The Liverpool native noted that our compatriot showed fantastic boxing. Bellew also refused the second fight against Canadian Adonis Stevenson.
"Why didn't I have a rematch with Usyk and Stivenson? Because Usyk is better than me. The rematch was pointless. And Adonis was in a weight that was fatal for me to take. Listen, I've fought everyone I've had close fights with twice. I've won every rematch I've been involved in, and some of them were final qualifiers for a world title against a high quality opponent. That's it, with respect," Bellew explained.
We would like to remind you that Usyk knocked out Bellew in the eighth round of the fight, defending the title of absolute heavyweight champion of the world. After that, the Briton decided to end his career.
