Netflix has finally published first trailer for the long-awaited second season of Squid Game. The sequel to the story about Player 456 will be released on the streaming platform on December 26, and the video reveals some information about the adventures that await him.

The trailer for the second season of the South Korean hit series was published on the official Netflix social media channels. It reveals terrifying new challenges that the characters will face in the colorful interiors of the survival game.

The second season takes place three years after Player 456 wins the game. Gi-hun gives up the idea of moving to the United States with his winnings. What's more, he decides to go through this journey once again, finding himself among hundreds of people desperate to win 45.6 billion won even at the cost of their own lives.

The trailer shows that this time the protagonist will try to save as many money-hungry players as possible and put an end to the game itself. His rivals will include a mother and her son. However, will he be able to change the human nature that tends to believe in easy money?

Emmy-winning actor Lee Jung-jae will return to the role of Gi-hun in the second season. The viewers will also see Lee Byung-hun again, who will play the mysterious game master. Wi Ha-joon is also included in the cast - he, playing a police officer in the first season, was hiding among the game's staff to find his missing brother. The author of the first season, Hwang Dong-hyuk, wrote and directed the second too.

The first season of Squid Game was a real hit on Netflix. Despite the lack of promo, it quickly gained the attention of viewers, becoming one of the most successful projects on the platform. It was nominated for 17 Emmys, winning six, including Best Lead Actor, Best Directing, Best Stunt Performance and Best Special Visual Effects. The aesthetics created by the show's creators have had a strong impact on popular culture - many used the signs and costumes from Squid Game, in particular, for Halloween costumes, and Netflix has even released a reality show based on the game itself.

Earlier, it was announced that Squid Game would return for the third season, which will be the last one. The first season premiered in 2021. As of today, it has 2.2 billion hours of viewing, which corresponds to an audience of approximately 265 million viewers.
