It became known about the upcoming disaster in the fight Usyk – Fury

The fight is to take place on May 18

Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has once again drawn attention to the number of referees who will work at the world heavyweight championship fight between Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs). Suleiman is confident that increasing the number of referees at the fight from three to six will help avoid a possible catastrophe in the scoring.

"Having three judges creates a very thin line between the right result and a disaster. We're talking about the biggest battle in history, and contradictions can be very destructive. If you have a fight and two judges have a bad day, the fight is decided 2-1 on bad cards. If it happens with six judges, the right fighter will win with a score of 4-2," boxingscene quoted Suleiman.

The WBC president thinks it's not normal that there have been too many split decisions and majority decisions over the past few months.

"It's easy to say that the judges have to be better when things go wrong, but why not invite the six best judges in the world for such a big championship fight – the judges who will be the most consistent – and let them decide who wins?" Mauricio asks.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the WBC president initiated the use of video replays during the Usyk-Fury fight. The official expressed confidence that this would help avoid many controversial situations.

Suleiman also proposed to change the rules for the battle between the Ukrainian and British heavyweights for the absolute title.

We would like to remind you that the Usyk-Fury fight was originally scheduled for February 17, but Fury suffered a serious cut on February 2 during the preparation. Because of this, the fight was officially postponed to the spring of 2024.

Turki Al Al-Sheikh, head of Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Entertainment, said the May 18 show will go ahead anyway. The organizer of the boxing evening in Riyadh has come up with a rule that will make it impossible to repeat the disruption of the fight.

In addition, Turki Al Al-Sheikh noted that Usyk or Tyson would face a $10 million fine if either of them refused to perform.

It should be noted that recently the famous British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (34-14, 23 KOs) expressed confidence that the Ukrainian will win this fight, using a very specific tactic.

In early March, it became known that the World Boxing Council (WBC) supported the initiative that the winner of Fury-Usyk should fight Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs). At the same time, the organization confirmed that it had authorized two fights between the British and Ukrainian for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
