Iron Man will return to the screens: Downey Jr. will appear in The Avengers, but in a new role. Fans build their own theories
Robert Downey Jr, the star of Marvel's legendary Iron Man films, is returning to the set. However, after the hero's infamous death (which almost everyone talked about) in the last movie Avengers: Endgame" in 2019, the actor disappeared from the fans' view, although he appeared in the form of memories in related films.
The new movie with Robert Downey Jr. will be called "Avengers: Doomsday", and the star will play a new role of the antagonist Dr. Doom. According to Variety, the fans were shocked by the news, because even after the death of Iron Man, they hoped that the hero was not dead and would appear in his character in the next parts. However, as we can see, 5 years and 11 superhero movies have passed, and Tony Stark has not appeared on the screens.
Robert Downey Jr. first appeared in Marvel back in 2008 as the main character Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies. Since then, all the movies in the cinematic universe have been connected not only by legendary post-credits scenes, but also by plots.
After receiving this year's Oscar for Oppenheimer, the actor said in an interview with Esquire that he would love to return to the plots of Marvel films.
"I would love to. It's too much a part of my DNA. It's the role that chose me. And listen, I always say: 'Never, ever go up against Kevin Feige [chairman of Marvel Studios since 2007]. It's a losing bet. It's like what Tony Stark said to Pepper Potts when he got out of the cave and came home: 'Okay, vacation's over,'" Downey Jr. commented on his desire to return to his movie career.
For the past few years, Marvel has been balancing in the multiverse. It is not known where exactly it started: with Doctor Strange, who could travel between worlds by default, or with Ant-Man, whose events take place in the quantum dimension, or with the first phase of films where Thor miraculously gets to Earth. However, it is known for certain that it was with the appearance of the Loki series that Timekeepers began to appear in subsequent films, and the movie Deadpool and Wolverine, which premiered on July 25, is proof of this.
What is known about Dr. Doom
Dr. Doom is an arch-villain from the Fantastic Four universe, which (spoiler alert!) has already been mentioned in the new movie Deadpool and Wolverine. In the story by screenwriter and comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis, the hero decides to use his scientific knowledge to make the world a better place. Knowing that Tony Stark no longer exists, he decides to sneak into his laboratory and appropriate the image and armor of Iron Man.
However, it is not known how accurately the movie will convey the comics, so we can only guess what the directors of the new Avengers will show in 2026 and 2027. That's how they say there should be two movies about a bunch of superheroes.
What fans assume
As far as we know, Tony Stark was the mentor of Peter Parker (Spider-Man). It is clear from the Spider-Man movies that the young man misses his mentor incredibly, so it is likely that Parker may also appear in The Avengers, but in a different guise, in line with Doctor Strange. At least that's what fans expect, the Tribune writes.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced the continuation of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies without Johnny Depp in the lead role. He explained that he is planning two new parts of the franchise and the team is already actively working on them.
