In early summer, a unique astronomical event will take place – a great parade of planets. It will be possible to see it even without special equipment.

Soon, six planets, namely Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, will line up in a row. Starwalk Space told more about this phenomenon.

The alignment of the planets, also popularly called a parade of planets, is an astronomical term used to describe an event when several planets simultaneously approach from the same side of the Sun. At this time, several planets can be seen simultaneously in the sky.

The next planetary alignment will take place on June 3, 2024, early in the morning. Since six planets will be lined up in the sky at once, it will be considered a major one.

However, this is a general date for when the event will be visible from most places around the world. Use the Sky Tonight app to find out the best time to observe the celestial bodies for your location.

For example, the best time to observe the planets from Kyiv is the evening of June 4.

However, please note that tall buildings or mountains near you may block the parade of planets. In addition, not all planets can be seen with the naked eye, so it's best to have a telescope or at least binoculars with you.

In general, the alignment of the planets lasts several days, so if you don't have time to observe the sky on June 3-4, you can try to see the parade a little later.

Location of the planets

To make it easier for you to identify celestial bodies and distinguish planets from stars, you can also use the Sky Tonight app.

Yellowish Saturn, which is quite easy to spot because it will be the brightest among the other planets and stars, will be visible to the naked eye in the constellation Aquarius.

Neptune will be located in the neighboring constellation of Pisces, but you'll need powerful binoculars to see it.

Also in the constellation Pisces, but a little later, will rise Mars, which will be distinguished by a reddish glow.

Closer to dawn, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mercury will appear on the eastern horizon. All three planets will be located in the constellation Taurus. Jupiter will be bright enough to be seen with the naked eye, but Mercury is too close to the Sun, so it and Uranus are best viewed through optics.
