In the footsteps of Kevin from Home Alone: where the iconic New Year's movie was filmed

Christmas attributes have remained unchanged for years: a Christmas tree, cocoa, and all the parts of the cult movie Home Alone. The McCallister house

Most of the scenes of the first part of the movie took place in a rented house in the village of Winnetka, Illinois. It wasn't even remodeled much. The whole design was what the real owners of the house saw daily. However, the tree house had to be made from scratch. It was immediately dismantled at the end of the filming process.

After the successful premiere of the comedy, the cost of the building more than tripled, and the demand for it increased dramatically. Everyone wanted to live there, and hundreds of tourists came to take photos.

O'Hare International Airport

According to the story, Kevin's mother had a long journey home from Paris. Since it is almost impossible to find free seats on an airplane during the holidays, she spent a lot of time waiting for flights. Nevertheless, the filmmakers decided to shoot all the scenes at the Illinois airport. They just changed locations and angles, faking that Kate McCallister was in different parts of the world.

LaGuardia Airport

In the second part of the comedy, Kevin gets lost in one of the most luxurious airports in New York - LaGuardia. Outside, he sees a breathtaking view of the metropolis' skyscrapers, so he immediately decides to stay.

By the way, at the time of filming, the annual traffic here was more than 20 million people. And the most popular destination was the McCallisters' hometown of Chicago.

Queensboro Bridge

This is the first thing the hero of the movie saw in New York. The magnificent bridge connects two wealthy boroughs of the city - Queens and Manhattan. Its total length is 2,270 meters. And for its cantilevered design and unusual arches, it has rightfully taken its place among the most beautiful locations in the United States.

Twin Towers

Home Alone 2 was released in 1992, so in this movie you can still see the tragically famous Twin Towers. It was here - in the World Trade Center building - that Kevin came to admire the city of his dreams from the top observation deck. Unfortunately, after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, all the buildings of the complex were completely or partially destroyed and later demolished. The new One World Trade Center has been operating here since 2014.

The Plaza Hotel

This is the place where the current president of America, then a businessman and owner of this hotel, Donald Trump, made his first appearance. By the way, it was not just a coincidence, but the requirement of the millionaire. Otherwise, he would not have given permission to shoot there. And it is almost impossible to find an alternative for such a luxurious hotel. Moreover, even then, Plaza was synonymous with wealth and success.

Central Park

It was impossible to make a movie about Kevin's adventures in New York and not include Central Park. Its huge territory is familiar to all tourists, because this place invariably attracts with its beauty.

The city's main Christmas tree

Traditionally, the most popular New Year's location in the American metropolis is the square in front of Rockefeller Center. The Christmas tree looks incredible here, as dozens of designers work on its installation, selecting unique Christmas decorations.
