"If I am not heard by the authorities or business..." President of the Super League club Favbet reacted to "Budivelnyk's" withdrawal from the championship
Oleksandr Lazorko, president of the Favbet men's Super League club "Polytechnics-Galicia", has called the situation with financing basketball teams in Ukraine very difficult. He criticized officials and businessmen who are reluctant to support domestic athletes.
Lazorko wrote about this on Facebook, commenting on the decision of Kyiv's "Budivelnyk" to withdraw from the Favbet Super League, basket.com.ua reports. The official admitted that his team could face the same fate and called for support for basketball projects in different cities. As an example, he mentioned the actions of business and authorities in Lutsk, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Cherkasy.
"There is nothing surprising, unfortunately. For this season, I managed to attract only "Truskavetska Voda" as a drinking sponsor (literally) from Lviv business. For which I am very grateful to them. All the others, including the regional and city authorities, froze up, coming up with various excuses, unlike the businesses and mayors of Lutsk, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Cherkasy, who are understanding of this issue and are cooperating. I am pulling the whole team of "Polytechnic-Halychyna" together with my last strength. And if local authorities or businesses don't hear me, my team will also stop its activities," Lazorko emphasized.
Earlier, the President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine (FBU) Mykhailo Brodskyi said that "Budivelnyk" could still be saved due to sponsors.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, "Budivelnyk" currently ranks second in the Favbet Super League standings with 10 wins in 13 matches. Last week, Dmytro Zabirchenko's team won three matches in Dnipro, including the first defeat of the season for Dnipro.
