"I would have done it too": boxing legend Lennox Lewis assesses the scandal around Usyk
World boxing legend Lennox Lewis does not believe that in the fight against Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), the British Daniel Dubois (22-0, 21 KOs) delivered a prohibited blow below the belt. Recalling the fight in 2023, the former absolute world heavyweight champion noted that the Ukrainian had misled the judge.
Lewis expressed this opinion in an interview with the Froch On Fighting YouTube channel, assessing the possible rematch between Dubois and Usyk. The British ex-boxer added that if he were the Ukrainian unified champion, he would have done the same, drawing the referee's attention to the allegedly illegal punch.
"No, it wasn't a punch below the belt. Ask any boxer, it was a punch to the elastic of his shorts. Or was he faking it? We all do it. We know the sport. I would have done it too," Lewis said.
As a reminder, Oleksandr defeated Daniel by TKO in the ninth round. After a punch below the belt in the fifth three minutes, judge Luis Pabon gave our compatriot five minutes to recover. After the fight, the British team appealed the result, but it was rejected.
Dubois threatened revenge against our compatriot. The head of Saudi Arabia's General Directorate of Entertainment, Turki Al Al-Sheikh, announced his intention to organize a revenge fight between the British and Ukrainian.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, manager Aegis Klimas told when Oleksandr Usyk plans to return to the ring. Artificial intelligence has already made a forecast for the Ukrainian's fight.
