"I was held at gunpoint": 5 celebrities who were victims of sexual assault

In 2017, actress Alyssa Milano urged people to use the hashtag #MeToo to show the extent of the problem of sexual harassment. Since then, it has become a social flash mob, where victims of violence talk about the diversity of their experiences.

Some stars joined the campaign, while others shared their own experiences of harassment during interviews. All in order to urge other people not to be silent about it, but to act: to see a therapist to work through the trauma, or, for example, to law enforcement agencies to convict the perpetrators. 1. Brooke Shields

American supermodel and actress Brooke Shields, star of the films Blue Lagoon and Endless Love, received a lot of criticism in the late 70s and early 80s for playing sexual roles as a child. In the 2023 documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, the celebrity decided to reveal that she was sexually abused by a Hollywood producer when she was young. Brooke also accused her mother of forcing her to appear naked: "I don't know why she thought it was okay, that it was okay."

2. Madonna

During an interview with Harper's Bazaar, the queen of pop music Madonna said that she was raped by a stranger when she was 19. The girl was ashamed of this horrific experience, so she did not tell anyone about it for many years. "I was held at gunpoint. They raped me on the roof of a building, where they dragged me with a knife at my back," the star said.

3. Teri Hatcher

American actress and writer Teri Hatcher, star of Desperate Housewives, in a letter to the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump, said that she was raped by her uncle at the age of 5: "I was lying face down on the seat, looking at the floor, when he raped me. 5. Lady Gaga

In 2014, the American singer and actress Stefani Germanotta (pseudonym - Lady Gaga) told radio host Howard Stern that she was raped at the age of 19 by a producer 20 years older than her. Her single Swine is about this incident. "I wrote a song about rape. It's about demoralization, anger, rage and passion. I had a lot of pain that I wanted to let go of," the artist said.

Later, in a documentary series about mental health called The Me You Can't See, Lady Gaga admitted that this rape led to an unwanted pregnancy.
