Hydrangea is one of the most noticeable garden ornaments, because its huge inflorescences cannot be ignored. Experienced gardeners say that there is a way to make hydrangea blooms even more magnificent, and at the same time protect the plant from pests.

As OBOZ.UA has learned, a miracle cure that will help with both of these tasks is one of the types of ordinary kitchen waste. And we are talking about orange peels.

They contain nutrients necessary for the intensive growth of hydrangeas. They also contain citric acid, which acidifies the soil, which the ornamental plant likes very much. It can even change the color of the inflorescences under such influence.

In addition, orange peels contain nitrogen, which helps plants form a lush green mass. They also contain phosphorus and potassium, which are essential for healthy flowering. This type of fertilizer also helps to retain water in the soil, which can be extremely important in the heat of the day. All you need to do is collect orange peels in a container with a lid and spread them under the hydrangea bushes once a month, sprinkling them with a thin layer of soil. This gives the product time to gradually decompose naturally, releasing nutrients.

And that's not all the benefits you can get from this natural remedy. The smell of orange repels pests such as mosquitoes and aphids. It makes it difficult for them to navigate in space, so pests avoid areas that smell like oranges.

To make an orange peel insect repellent, simply put a few slices in a bowl and cover them with hot water. Mix well and let it cool. Pour the resulting liquid into a spray bottle and treat the bushes with it. Such a spray will be safe for hydrangeas, but it will protect them well from insects.
