How to wash clothes from mud: one tip will make everything much easier

Summer outdoor activities are uplifting and healthy, but on the other hand, they can end up with terrible stains on your clothes. Someone sat on the muddy ground, someone played in a puddle, someone fell into a pond - and now you have clothes stained with mud.

Contrary to the general rule of stain removal, experts do not recommend cleaning mud before it dries. Give it time. OBOZ.UA found out what to do afterwards.

While the contaminated item is drying, prepare the following tools and products:

• a soft-bristled brush, such as an old toothbrush;
• a stain remover of your choice - you can focus on the type of fabric;
• laundry detergent or gel.

Step 1

When the item is well dry, gently scrape off as much dirt as possible with a brush or even a spoon. A handheld vacuum cleaner will also do the job well.

Step 2

Once you've dry-cleaned as much as possible, apply a little stain remover to the stained area. Rub it in gently with your finger to avoid smearing the dirt on the fabric. Instead of a special product, you can use a small amount of laundry detergent or even a paste of baking soda and water. Leave the product on the stain for 5-15 minutes or for the time recommended by the instructions.

Step 3

Rinse out the stain remover with cool running water and wash the garment as usual, then air dry. If there are still traces of stains, repeat step two or soak the item in a warm detergent solution for several hours. It is better not to dry clothes in the dryer after contact with mud. This can fix it in the fibers and repeated cleaning, if necessary, will become ineffective.
