A few drops of antiseptic will save you in an emergency

The problem of a frozen car door lock is a relevant one when severe frosts come. And it's not very pleasant to get out of the car in the morning and find out that it's impossible to open it because it's frozen.

Car experts warn that you should not use hot water to defrost the lock. Instead, they advised several other options. OBOZ.UA tells you what tools can help.

First of all, check your bag. Most likely, since the coronavirus pandemic, there is a bottle of alcohol antiseptic in it. It will help you defrost the lock quickly.

Spray a little antiseptic into the keyhole, then insert the key and gently move it back and forth. The alcohol will accelerate the melting of the ice and you will be able to open the lock in a few seconds. If you don't have an antiseptic, you can also use medical alcohol, vodka, or even vinegar. You shouldn't use this life hack too often, as it can damage the lock, but it can save the day in case of emergency.

Here are some more tips for motorists in case of frosty and snowy weather:

  • treat the door seals with WD-40 spray to prevent them from freezing to the body;
  • If you need to dig your car out from under the snow, put on a pair of disposable household gloves under your warm gloves so your hands won't get wet;
  • take a bag of cat litter with you and pour it under the wheels 0 it will help you get out if the car gets stuck in the snow;
  • treat the windows from the inside with shaving foam - it will protect the glass from fogging;
  • in order not to clean the mirrors from snow and ice every time, wrap them in a bag when the car is on the street.
