How to quickly clear the windshield of ice: a life hack that can cause drivers trouble has gone viral
The first frosts have come to Ukraine and with them the need to clean the windshield of a car from frozen ice in the morning before leaving. This problem is familiar to all drivers whose cars spend the night in open parking lots or yards, and there are many of them in our country.
Meanwhile, a method of extremely fast glass cleaning that does not require additional chemicals or scraping has gone viral on TikTok. However, Lite Online warns that it is not suitable for all cars, as it can pose a serious danger.
A user named ladyj_16 from the North American state of Indiana posted a video in which she fills a ziplock bag with hot water and simply runs it over the windshield. The temperature difference instantly melts the thin ice and the glass is cleaned quickly and effortlessly.
But there is one "but," and many commenters under the video pointed it out. This method can be relatively safe only on a completely intact windshield. If it has even minimal cracks or chips, then water vapor or melted water will immediately get into them and immediately begin to freeze back. When freezing, water tends to expand, and because of this, a small crack can spread and turn into a large one. This will quickly lead to the need to replace the entire windshield.
Meanwhile, other motorists suggest using fairly simple and inexpensive ingredients to make their own solution for treating car windows against freezing. It will take a minimum of time, but it will work effectively and is safer than the hot water life hack, writes the Living on a Dime blog.
The first recipe is alcohol-based. To make a non-freezing drink, you will need:
- 2 parts of medical alcohol;
- 1 part of water;
- a bottle with a spray bottle.
Mix the alcohol and water in the bottle, screw in the spray bottle, and shake it well so that the ingredients are properly mixed. That's it, the product is ready. If you spray it on the icy glass, it will be much easier and faster to remove the ice with a scraper. If you treat the windows with this liquid in the evening, the task will be even easier. It can also be used to treat door handles, keyholes, and the door itself – it's completely safe.
The second product contains vinegar. Here are its ingredients:
- 3 parts vinegar;
- 1 part water;
- a bottle with a spray bottle.
The procedure for making the de-icer and the method of use are similar. Both recipes will help to scrape off even a thick layer of ice, but in this case, you will have to work a little longer.
