The tomatoes we grow in our garden are quite sensitive crops, and diseases and rot appear on them quite easily. If you don't pay attention to the problem in time, you can quickly lose the entire crop.

Experienced gardeners say that the problem can be solved even with home methods. OBOZ.UA tells you about a very effective way.

What causes rot

Usually, black spots on tomatoes begin to appear due to a lack of water and potassium. So, to begin with, it is important to adjust the watering of the plants. It should be sufficient, but not excessive, because in this case, rotting will occur in the root system and the entire plant may die.

Carefully examine not only the fruits but also the leaves. Remove all affected parts. In addition, remove all the lower leaves from the plant to the level of the first fruit.

Spray to protect the plant

Ready-made mineral fertilizers can provide tomatoes with a normal level of calcium. But you can also treat them with a homemade spray. To prepare it, you will need:

  • 100 ml of water
  • 13 grams of chalk
  • 250 ml of vinegar

Mix the water with the crushed chalk and shake thoroughly. Then add vinegar to it and pour the mixture into a 10-liter canister or bucket. Wait 5-10 minutes, then fill the container with warm, settled water. Spray the tomatoes with the resulting liquid. The procedure should be carried out once a week in the evening so that the spray does not evaporate too quickly and has time to work.

Chalk will provide tomatoes with the right dose of calcium. And vinegar will enrich it with potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, phosphorus, iron and chlorine. Additionally, it will protect the plant from pests because the smell of the substance repels insects.
