How to drive ants out of the garden: effective ways

Garden and forest ants are different types of insects. In the wild, ants are considered forest orderlies, but in the garden, they do more harm than good. The insects can start digging up your bushes, attacking flowers and berries. In summer, they set up a hiding place anywhere: in the garden, in the flower garden, in the roots of perennials or in the trunks of fruit trees, thus destroying the garden.

The most radical way to get rid of ants is to use insecticides. OBOZ.UA figured out what are the more gentle methods to drive the insects out of the garden.

Method 1

A large colony of ants can only be removed by chemical means. It is best to take preventive measures and scare away insects with plants with insecticidal properties.

The herb tansy plant will help get rid of ants. You should prepare an infusion of 800 g of dry herb or 2 kg of freshly harvested plant material by pouring a bucket of water over the organic matter and insisting for several days. Before using the liquid, it is better to boil it, dilute the liquid part of the tincture with water in a 1:1 ratio and add 50 g of grated laundry or tar soap.

Method 2

This is the easiest option. Cover the places where ants have settled with a thick layer of dry mustard. The mustard powder will fill the entrances to the anthill and force the insects to leave the place.

Method 3

The most humane way is to plant plants around the perimeter of the garden that repel ants with their strong aroma.

These include:

• parsley
• garlic - you can even rub it on tree trunks;
• marigolds.

Method 4

There is an effective pharmacy method that involves the use of boric acid. Dissolve 2 cups of sugar in 1 liter of water and add 5 g of boric acid. You need to treat the anthill or the soil surface near plants that are affected by ants.

Method 5

Lemon juice will also come in handy. You can prepare a concentrated solution of lemon juice or add a little vinegar (in a ratio of 1:2 with water. The solution should be poured into the anthill. Or experts advise to mix 100 g of soda and 100 g of powdered sugar and dissolve it in 50 ml of water.
