"How much can you swallow?" Russia makes unexpected decision on CAS, shocking Z-patriots
All Russian sports federations that had filed lawsuits for suspension with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have withdrawn them, Match TV reports, citing a source. After the total ban of athletes from Russia, all Russian federations announced their intention to appeal these decisions.
As a result, lawsuits were filed by the Russian Figure Skating Federation (RFSF), the Russian Skating Union, the Russian Volleyball Federation, the Russian Boxing Federation and others.
"All the federations that filed the lawsuits withdrew them. It was decided to negotiate rather than argue," the source said.
The decision came as a shock to both athletes and local patriots.
Svetlana Ishmuratova, a two-time Olympic biathlon champion, said that Russia should have shown character.
"I don't know what they decided there, but it turns out that they conceded. I do not understand this. How long can you swallow insults? Everyone is beating you and making you kneel. Maybe you should get up from your knees and say your weighty word? Today they gave it to you, tomorrow they take it away... This is not our way. We can't back down," Ishmuratova is convinced.
Russian fans are also shocked by what happened.
"The further into the forest, the more evil the partisans are. But seriously, it's not clear what's going on. I hope that the situation will be clarified in the near future whether it will be positive or vice versa..." the fans write.
