The head coach of Ukraine's U-19 national team, Dmytro Mykhailenko, spoke about the adaptation of Christian Shevchenko. The 17-year-old son of the head of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andriy Shevchenko made his debut for the youth national team in the elite round of the Euro 2024 (U-19) qualifiers.

Mykhaylenko admitted that the young footballer's adaptation was very fast.

"He is very cheerful. Now Christian is communicating in English with players who also speak this language. There are such players in the team. He is already one of the team. He is mostly friends with the guys who play abroad because they speak English. Yes, it is difficult. It's not one hundred percent communication, because he doesn't understand Ukrainians, but he still feels at home," Mykhailenko said in an interview with NV.

Dmytro Stanislavovych also denied the reports of some media outlets that Shevchenko Jr. has an interpreter attached to him.

"No, he does not have any translator. The coaching staff speaks English, so one of the coaches is always with him when he needs to explain something," the coach said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on March 20, Ukraine defeated Northern Macedonia 2-0 in the 1st round of a mini-tournament in Skopje, Macedonia, at the FFM Training Center. Christian Shevchenko appeared on the field in the 79th minute, replacing Hennadiy Sinchuk.

In the second round, in the match against Latvia (3-0), Christian was put on the field in the 90th minute.

Shevchenko Jr. made a spectacular debut for Watford. He helped the team reach the League Cup final. On February 11, an interview appeared saying that Christian, who was born in November 2006 in London, wanted to become a citizen of Ukraine.
