After almost 29 years, comedian Adam Sandler is returning to one of his favorite roles. The sequel to the 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore, in which he played a novice golfer, will soon be released on Netflix.

The project has already received its first teaser, which was shown on Netflix and Sandler's social media. The streaming service also broadcast two NFL games live on Christmas Day and released a video during one of the breaks, Variety writes.

The sequel to Happy Gilmore is due out in 2025. In the story, the protagonist becomes a professional golfer. He meets old acquaintances again and makes new friends to experience even more adventures.

Julie Bowen returned to the sequel to play Virginia Venit, Happy's beloved. Christopher McDonald will also appear on the screen again as the rival golfer Shooter McGavin. New cast members include Bad Bunny, Substance star Margaret Qualley, comedian and longtime Sandler collaborator Nick Swardson, NFL superstar Travis Kelce, Scott Mescudi, aka rapper Kid Cudi, and Rough Cut director Benny Safdie.

Kyle Newacheck, who directed Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Murder Mystery, is in charge of the film's production design. The screenplay for the sequel was written by the author of the original film, Tim Gerlichy, and the main actor of the film. Dennis Dugan, the director of the first film, will serve as executive producer, while Jack Giarraputo and Robert Symonds are producing the project.

In the first movie, Happy Gilmore, played by Sandler, was a star hockey player who has anger management issues. He goes to his grandmother's house to help her pay her taxes. To do this, the protagonist decides to take part in a professional golf competition, hoping to win a large cash prize. This leads the hero to an atypical adventure.
