Actors with and without professional makeup

Was it also a shock for you when you first saw the actors who portrayed Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter or Gollum from The Lord of the Rings in real life? It was almost impossible to believe that these stars and the characters they portrayed were the same person. Professional makeup artists together with computer graphics perform real miracles, making the world of cinema so attractive to consumers.

However, if you have suddenly missed or forgotten what the actors from the cult films looked like with and without makeup, we decided to make a selection. Check out the collages with movie stars and their characters in the OBOZ.UA material.

Pennywise, It. Bill Skarsgård

In fact, if you look very long and hard, you can see the similarities between the 33-year-old Swedish actor and the creepy killer clown from the IT franchise based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. However, Pennywise's makeup is really impressive and frightening. No wonder this look has been one of the most popular on Halloween for many years.

Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter. Ralph Fiennes

The main antagonist of the franchise telling about the boy who survived is disgusting and frightening not only because of the talented acting of the outstanding Ralph Fiennes but also, of course, because of his makeup. It is known that three makeup artists worked on the English actor's face for two hours every day, which is considered quite fast in the world of cinema. However, Voldemort's famous nose, or rather the lack of it, is the work of the editors.

Mystique, X-Men: First Class. Jennifer Lawrence

Many people forget or don't even know that the star of The Hunger Games, Passengers, Silver Linings Playbook and other films also starred in the legendary X-Men. And while Lord Voldemort's makeup was applied for two hours every day, makeup artists spent at least 8 hours to create Mystique's look. The actress's body was covered with special overlays and painted, and then small details were additionally drawn. Besides, it's hard to imagine how Jennifer Lawrence could stand to wear bright yellow lenses all day.

Davy Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean. Bill Nighy

In the cult movies about Jack Sparrow, or rather Captain Jack Sparrow, we can see Davy Jones before he turned from an ordinary pirate into the immortal cursed captain of the Flying Dutchman. However, we can bet that his "cursed" look scared you quite a bit while watching it. The head and the beard of the Sea Devil consist of tentacles. The body of an octopus is under the hat and it seems to have no nose. This transformation was achieved thanks to motion capture.

Diva of Plavalaguna, The Fifth Element. Maïwenn Le Besco

The Fifth Element is a movie that once amazed viewers with its unique combination of science fiction and aesthetics. One of the most striking characters in this masterpiece was the opera singer Diva of Plavalaguna, portrayed on screen by the elegant French actress Maïwenn Le Besco. The film's director Luc Besson created her, and designer John Coppinger did her makeup. The actress had to paint her body blue every day and wear a rubber hat on her head with heavy structures attached to it.

Gollum, The Lord of the Rings. Andy Serkis

"My precious": this phrase of the ugly Gollum has become as iconic as the film trilogy itself. And it was said by Andy Serkis, who played the role of the frightening creature. Although this look was created using computer graphics, Serkis was the one who created Gollum's facial expressions, movements, and voice. In addition, without the use of graphics, the actor played Gollum in his youth in the episode at the beginning of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It's worth adding that Serkis has a lot of such impressive transformations in his work. He played King Kong in the movie of the same name, Caesar in Planet of the Apes and Baloo in The Jungle Book.
