In Ukraine, fraudsters are stealing citizens' data and funds under the guise of the state program "Winter ePromotion" ("Zelenskyy's Thousand"). Thus, one of the Ukrainians was cheated out of UAH 71,000.

This was reported by Oleh Horokhovskyi, co-owner and founder of Monobank. He noted that the criminals call Ukrainians, "accept applications" for money, and then "act depending on the client's behavior."

"In the 'most vivid' case, the client transferred the entire balance, UAH 71,000, to a new account specifically opened to receive UAH 1,000. We need to be more careful," Horokhovskyi said.

Earlier, the Main Directorate of the National Police reported on another scheme used by fraudsters to steal data and money from Ukrainians under the guise of the "winter" UAH 1000. In particular, they create phishing sites that look like official resources. To do this:

  • The scammers send messages in messengers or social networks offering to quickly receive payments from the state.

The link leads to a fake website that imitates an official resource.

  • The fake website requires the user to enter confidential data.

As soon as the person enters the data, fraudsters gain access to their account. Money is debited instantly, and it is often extremely difficult to get it back.

How to protect yourself from fraudsters

To avoid becoming a victim of fraud, you should follow several rules. In particular:

  • Do not click on suspicious links.

Especially if they come from unknown persons or sources.

  • Do not enter confidential information such as passwords, PINs, CVV codes, and account numbers.
  • Check information about payments.

Look for information about government support programs exclusively on official websites or in the Diia app.

  • Use anti-virus programs.

They can warn you about dangerous links and protect your data.
